I'm neither Muslim nor Malay..But, I met a former Madrasah student during my course of studies in NUS..
She is a successful Sociology Honours student(most probably will graduate with a second upper hons)...Fluent in English, contrary to the belief and very very vocal and confident.
In fact she recently told me about a Madrash Al-Marif student who recevied a full-scholarship to study Medicine at Duke university after graduating form Poly..
I happened to study gender-socialization in Madrasah Al-Marif for the purpose of research. I was suprised to say the least when I saw these girls so confident, bubbling with ideas and intelligent..I believe they are proof enough that in the absence of the "streaming system" students are able to bloom to their full-potential..

While your argument is persuasive and form an interesting read, lets move away from a racialist standpoint and look at the issue from a class perspective.

Those with lower earning capacities will find it hard to keep a marriage steady due to the unforgiving capitalist climate we are in. It just happens that Malays dominate this group. Therefore, it is a class issue, not a Malay issue.

Designating race as the culprit for social issues will cause alot of racist misconceptions. Why not say, Malays are bad in Maths etc because they are brought up not to place importance on their financial health?

To give credence to your theory will also strenghten Mahathir's hypothesis of the lazy native and this has been disputed thoroughly by Alatas' counter-dialectic.

As for this theory of getting to know each other beyond the magical 12 months period, I can't help but wonder why arranged marriages have such a high rate of success. My friends from India would never dream of getting a divorce because it is culturally unaccepted. So, perhaps, it is not the lenght of time that you know your potential spouse but how easy is it to get a divorce and whether it is socially accepted.

This is a secular issue. The gay phenomenom is a plague that needs to be eradicated as soon as it possibly can.
Decades ago, policymakerr and community leaders made a serious mistake. The human rights advocacy, being in the tandem of fairness, reacted through their movements to position its gay issue in the agenda.

A serious mistake never to be repeated. Homosexuality, beyond sins perpetuated by faiths, is a social decay. It breaks down the real fabric of social civic-ness. It has penetrated into the realm of nature, way beyond what other crimes are capable of impacting (and do not mistake me for condoning other crimes).

Reforms and reeducation through methods based on community conducts and values are soft approaches with a human touch. It should be implemented and exercised. Shortly after that, he claimed his son kept getting repeated SMSes and calls from these people asking him to attend their cell group meetings at Cornerstone Community Church in Katong.

Said Mr Tay: ' I felt they are targeting younger kids like my son who are timid and don't know much.

'I am a Roman Catholic myself and I still am offended as they are not respecting our different religious beliefs.'

Mr Tay said he went to the church shortly after the incident to tell the members who had sent SMSes to his son not to bother him anymore.

Principal alerted

He also alerted the principal of Greenview Secondary about the matter.

Lets be honest with ourselves here. The publication is degoratory and is slander directed toward muslims. Reason being, why would christians sent them out to fellow christians? To protect themselves from accidentally converting to Islam? I doubt so, cos there is no active Islamic missionaries here in singapore and futher more, Islam do not practice missionary work and in most cases,individual themselves are drawn toward Islam and not the other way around.

Or maybe their intention is to breed discontent and hate amongst fellow HUMANBEINGs of a different faith..All believer of any faith know that if you are of strong faith in what you believe in then ye shall not fear any missionary that comes to you..Only a person who is in doubt would always seek for an answer. Why put so much energy on hate, which i am very certain Jesus/Yeshua/Isa was not of such character.
