Hantaran Calculator

Talk about rising costs of living.

It seems that the Hantaran (dowry) for Muslim brides have increased too. The dowry is a fixed amount of money that the groom has to pay to the bride's parents, on top of wedding expenses. As recently as a few years ago, the Hantaran for a Muslim bride would be about $7000. Today a figure as high as $10,000 is not unheard of.

From what I understand, some Malay men have decided to take out an installment plan on their brides too.

So how much is a Muslim lady worth and how do you determine her value anyway? Many of my friends have been asking this question.

With that I have configured a Hantaran Calculator

Do give it a try and see how much you (or your bride) is worth.

But a word of caution though. The Hantaran Calculator has been configured with deep-seated Malay stereotypes, based on certain qualities that our elders look out for when "valuing" a girl. For example her age (too old is not good), education level (too high is not good either), and whether or not she is a virgin (some elders can actually tell).

Note: Islam frowns upon wastage and preaches moderation, even when holding weddings. So take the calculator with a pinch of salt :)

  6. Jangan lah ikut harga pasaran... ikan kah korang ni? Haa.. nasihat2kan lah mak bapak... anak nak kahwin utk senang masa hadapan.. bukan senang masa kahwin... susah bayar utang masa depan... PERINGATAN: bukan jual pusi ya... anda dirikan komuniti bukan jual bodi :)

Tapi.. kalau nak jual gak.. jangan marah bila bercerai berai :) Sebab dah jadikan diri macam p*l*cur :)

  8. Theres no such thing as market price for Hantarans.

My fiance asked how much is my hantaran; n when I say its up to him, whatever he can afford; he was quite surprised with my answer. Thinking that I was pulling his leg.

But its true. And I'm happy with the 7k that he plans to give me. Most important is to know each other's responsibilities once we become husband n wife.

  11. Assalamu'alaikum Bro,

kalau tak silap, the term dowry refers to mas kahwin or mahar; according to Islam. As for hantaran, takda pulak istilah tu dalam Islam atau english, or maybe kita boleh classified dia as Gift.

    Wallahu 'alam

  18. Hi Ridzwan,

Funny that nowadays, Muslim lady tend to want higher figure for Hantaran.

From my opinion, Hantaran is not important. What important is mas kahwin.

Hantaran is just Malay traditional. Even without hantaran you can still get married.

Probably, not so many people heard about Bruneians that got married without hantaran. Not an emergency marriage. It is plan for couple of months with lots of relatives coming to the wedding. The bride just dont want hantaran. What important is 'mas kahwin' and got married.

There you go!!! but hey it depends of what you want and your view of hantaran.

But would you want your future husband to be moneyless??????
paying debts every month for the wedding especially the costly hantaran. Endded-up, the wifes (lady) have to support the family.
